Inclusion

Bradley Stoke Community School has been built with specialist facilities to provide access for people with disabilities to all areas and specialist accommodation within each curriculum area. This includes lifts at either end of the building and height-adjustable specialist equipment in teaching areas.

The colour schemes have been chosen to be suitable for students and visitors with visual impairment as well. There is a suite of rooms for the provision of teaching and support for students with special educational needs and students will be assessed on entry to gauge the level of need and to ensure that appropriate personalised learning is provided.

For some students this may best be provided by in-class support for behaviour and/or learning and for others they may need to be withdrawn from mainstream teaching and learning, for all or part of their time, to follow special individual or group programmes. The school will work closely with specialists from South Gloucestershire’s Department for Children and Young People and other agencies to identify and address specific learning needs.

Maxine Houghton is the school SENCo and leads the work of a team of 18 teaching assistants and three specialist SEN teachers who provide the day-to-day support for students, with an emphasis on inclusion wherever possible. The school’s SEN policy is available from the downloads section of this website. All other policies are available on request or can be downloaded from this website.
