Online Safety - Facebook Guidance
Tuesday, 13 December 2011 10:33

We have been contacted by the local police who have informed us that several students at BSCS have been in contact with someone potentially posing as a 15 year old girl living in Bath. The conversations have been clearly inappropriate and, while the situation is being followed up, we would like to take this opportunity to encourage all parents and carers to be vigilant about their children’s Facebook activity and to talk with them about being safe online.

It is worth remembering that Facebook’s own acceptable use policy states that children should be 13 years old before having a Facebook account.

In today’s society it is unrealistic to think that young people will not try to connect with each other using social media and it is really important that parents and carers support their children and offer guidance about what is acceptable and what is not.

All students have specific input in school about online safety but if you are concerned, please see the following links which will help you to support your children while they are online at home:

If you would like support in this area, please contact Iain Williams, Deputy Headteacher ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. We have, in the past, run information sessions aimed at improving online safety for parents and these could run again if parents and carers need support.
