Community Governor Recruitment

Abbeywood Community School and Bradley Stoke Community School

The Olympus Academy Trust’s (OAT) has vacancies at both of its academy schools for Community Governors.

Community Governors play an important role on the Local Governing Bodies (LGBs) of our schools. The role of governors is crucial for the effective leadership and management of our schools. The governing body complements the professional leadership of our headteachers and senior leadership by bringing a range of perspectives to the strategic direction and governance of the schools to ensure children and young people have access to exceptional education.

Community governors need to show a commitment to the wellbeing and progress of all its students. They need to work effectively with other governors to provide challenge and support to the schools in their continued successful development.

Community governors are selected on the basis of the skills that they can contribute to the governing bodies. Specific skills, which would be of benefit to our schools currently, are:

  • Experience of school governance, preferably of improving schools
  • Primary education experience or primary school governance
  • Special Educational Needs experience
  • Supporting vulnerable students or people experience
  • Committee chairing experience, or similar, e.g. leading projects, chairing working groups
