Year 9 poems performed by students on Bradley Stoke Radio

During Book Week 2014, we were fortunate enough to receive a visit from the performance poet Rebecca Tantony. Rebecca writes modern poetry and usually performs it at theatres and festivals. She has won poetry awards and had her work published in anthologies, magazines and books.

All Year 9 students were lucky enough to hear her perform in assembly and then some students attended poetry writing workshops to learn more about the way Rebecca writes and to explore creative poetry writing themselves.

Daniel Prosser said – “Rebecca Tantony was funny, good and cool. Her poems were very, very good. She taught me to think of ways to express myself in words”.

Georgia Pomery said – “It was a really good workshop. It made me feel inspired and better about English”.

As part of an English project students were then invited to write a poem around the subject of "I Am".  Chandler Scaife 9G, Alex Jackson 9G, Peter Reynolds 9G, Mrudula Hirimagalur 9G, Abi Todd 9O and Harrison Wide 9O were then selected to read their poems for Bradley Stoke Radio.  You can listen to their poems here.
